How much will a Septic System cost?
- Each individual system is
different. Both new and repair systems are permitted by the
State. The State takes into account several factors (i.e., number
of bedrooms, type of soil and water table) to determine your
individual system size. All systems are priced by the amount of
square footage of drain field and size of tank(s) required on your permit.
What maintenance is required for my
septic tank?
- IT MUST BE PUMPED periodically.
Sludge that accumulated in the bottom of the tank must be pumped
out. How frequently depends on the size of the tank, the use it
gets and the condition of the system. Click
here to learn more about maintaining your pump.
- BACTERIA MUST BE REPLENISHED. Live
bacteria is necessary for solids digestion. Many bacteria-killing
products are used in homes, so they must be replenished. If the
bacteria is not replenished, the septic system will fill up with solid
material and overflow into the soil absorption area. This will
clog the system, and it will have to be replaced.
Will acid help my septic system?
- Acids and chemicals work only to clean
out the line, but destroy the live bacteria that are necessary for the
proper function of your system.
What are some warning signs that my
septic system is in trouble?
- Sluggish drainage in the home
- Plumbing backups
- Gurgling sound in pipes and drains
- Outdoor odor
- Soggy ground or greener grass in area of
septic system
Do anti-bacterial household products
hurt my septic tank system?
Many households products contain chemicals
that will kill bacteria. Your septic tank requires that bacteria to
function properly. You can contact
our office for a full brochure on household products determined safe for
use with a septic tank system. Note that anti-bacterial products
gently damage and impair the bacteria's functioning ability and in fairness,
rarely will any ONE brand knock out your system. It's the use of MANY
anti-bacterial products you use on a daily basis that must be
monitored.
